Functional Vinyasa
I teach inclusive, strengthening, lighthearted Vinyasa to individuals, groups, businesses, and more.
Ready for yoga that’s skillful, welcoming, sustainable, and effective? Let’s get to work.
What is Functional Vinyasa?
Balanced.
Yoga isn’t just about developing flexibility, though that’s a common misconception. In my classes, we focus on developing muscle strength and control equally. I believe this develops a practice that makes us feel better in our bodies, not worse.
Sustainable.
I want you to be able to move confidently and safely your entire life. We’ll treat your ligaments, joins, muscles, and bones with respect and temperance. I’m all about yoga poses that build your body up, not tear it down.
Varied.
Lots of the movement in my classes is informed by other disciplines such as physical therapy, somatics, body rolling, tai chi, primitive movement, as well as martial art styles such as Jujutsu and Tai Chi. I also incorporate meditation, breathwork, and savasana (rest time) into every class I teach. Be prepared to explore and experiment! I promise there’s a method to my madness.
Challenging.
Yes, class is active. Yes, you’ll sweat…but that’s not the only hard part. Sometimes poses don’t come naturally. Sometimes it’ll feel like you’re not making progress. In my classes, you’ll learn how to meet physical or mental challenges with self-compassion, humor, and humility. Don’t worry; I’m also still working on yoga…and myself.
“I have been practicing yoga with Jack for over a year and I can honestly say it has changed my life. She has encouraged me and pushed me to expand my strength and abilities. I feel stronger and more flexible, both mentally and physically. Jack creates a space that is safe for every body. She acknowledges that yoga is different for each person, thus different poses and stretches work differently for everybody. The combination of the safe place she holds and the vast knowledge she shares makes for an effective and enjoyable experience every class. Jack has a student in me for as long as she continues to teach!”
